Overview: Branded Wagyu That Has Won Wagyu Olympics and Has Been Served at Academy Awards Party

Miyazaki Beef is recognized as one of the best wagyu in Japan since it has won “Zenkoku Wagyu Noryoku Kyoshinkai” (全国和牛能力共進会 meaning National Wagyu Competence Show), often referred to as Wagyu Olympic in Japan, in recent three olympics (2007, 2012, 2017). Prestigious Miyazaki Beef has been a winner prize for sumo wrestlers and had been served in Japanese airlines in their first class seats.

Miyazaki Beef has gained its recognition not only in Japan but also in the world. It was served at the Oscars’ Governors Ball, the official party of the Academy Award, in 2018 and 2019.

Where Can You Eat Authentic Miyazaki Beef?

Yori Yoki Miyazakigyu Zukuri Taisaku Kyogikai ~Yoriyoki Miyazaki Beef Council~, the council that manages Miyazaki Beef brand, has created list of restaurants that serves Miyazaki Beef.

History

Yori Yoki Miyazakigyu Zukuri Taisaku Kyogikai ~Yoriyoki Miyazaki Beef Council~ was established in April 1986 and defined Miyazaki Beef. At that time, any Japanese Black wagyu raised in Miyazaki longest and has meat quality grade 4 or above could name Miyazaki Beef. (See Basic Information section for more detail about definition.)

In 2015, the council added “birth place” to its definition. Furthermore, in 2017, the council added “breed line” to its definition, which is not typical in other branded wagyu. Now, cattle must be sired by a Miyazaki Japanese Black breed to name Miyazaki Beef. The council has long been improving the breed, and Miyazaki Beef breed line became superb; it has won the wagyu olympics in 2007, 2012, 2017. Only few prestigious branded wagyu in Japan limits breed line. For example, Kobe Beef limits breed line to Tajima.

Miyazaki Beef has been exported to many countries around the world via Miyachiku Company, which owns a certified meat factory for exporting.
